چکیده

Legionella dumoffii is an intracellular pathogen of freshwater protozoans capable infecting and multiplying in mammalian cells, causing a severe respiratory disease called Legionnaires’ disease. The pathomechanism infection development very complex depends on many factors, including the structure properties macromolecules that build components L. cell envelope. Phospholipids (PLs) forming biological membranes have significant impact integrity membrane as well interactions with host cells. changes its lipid profile under influence external which allows it to adapt living environment. One factors altering PL composition presence exogenous choline. aim this study was determine physicochemical model bacterial adsorbed at air–liquid interface (Langmuir monolayers). They were composed phospholipids isolated from cultured (PL+choline) without (PL−choline) Moreover, effect human cathelicidin (LL-37 peptide) added subphase these monolayers analyzed terms phospholipid–peptide interactions. results indicated PL+choline slightly more condensed than PL−choline. In LL-37, elasticity both increased; thus, their molecular packing ordering decreased. disturbing related peptide’s antibacterial activity.

Involvement of the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 in human atherosclerosis.

OBJECTIVE Antimicrobial peptides are effector molecules of the innate immune system. To understand the function of vascular innate immunity in atherosclerosis, we investigated the role of LL-37, a cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, in the disease process. METHODS AND RESULTS Using real-time polymerase chain reaction, we found a 6-fold increase in human cationic antimicrobial protein 18/LL-37...

The human antimicrobial peptide LL-37 suppresses apoptosis in keratinocytes.

The human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide LL-37 is involved in various aspects of skin biology, including protection against infection, wound healing, and also in psoriasis. The tight regulation of apoptosis is critical in tissue repair and its deregulation is a part of the psoriasis phenotype. Despite being involved in cell death of several cell types, virtually nothing is known about the f...

Antimicrobial peptide LL-37 on surfaces presenting carboxylate anions.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are part of the immune system in a wide range of organisms. They generally carry positive charges under physiological conditions, allowing them to accumulate on the negatively charged bacterial membrane as the first step of bactericidal action. The concentration range of AMPs necessary for rapid killing of bacteria tested in vitro is much higher than levels found a...

Transmembrane pores formed by human antimicrobial peptide LL-37.

Human LL-37 is a multifunctional cathelicidin peptide that has shown a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity by permeabilizing microbial membranes similar to other antimicrobial peptides; however, its molecular mechanism has not been clarified. Two independent experiments revealed LL-37 bound to membranes in the α-helical form with the axis lying in the plane of membrane. This led to the conc...
